
Kriralok Desk: AC Milan could not write a comeback story against Inter Milan. Champions League semi-final first leg lost 2-0 at home. They lost in the second leg as well. Inter reached the final after winning the Madrid derby 1-0. With a 3-0 lead over two legs, they are in the title-deciding stage of the competition after 13 years.
Real Madrid or Manchester City will be Inter’s opponent in the final on June 10 at Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul. When Inter last played in the final in the 2009-10 season, they also won the Champions League trophy, defeating Bayern Munich.
Milan could have gone ahead in the fifth minute. Theo Hernandez’s bullet-speed shot from 35 yards went off the crossbar. Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana may not have seen properly. He did not move from the place. In the 24th minute, a counter-attacking opportunity came in front of Inter. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s first shot was blocked and another went over the crossbar.
Milan could have taken the lead in the 38th minute in a fierce attack-to-attack battle. Rafael Leão’s curling shot at the far post was narrowly off target. Milan narrowly escaped in the next minute. Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s free kick was blocked by Martinez’s head with the hand of Mike Miano. In the 41st minute, the Argentine striker’s bullet speed shot went off the crossbar.
From the beginning of the second half, Milan kept strong pressure on the opponent’s defense. In the 74th minute, the team went ahead with the first good chance of the half. On the counter-attack, Martinez was unable to get the first shot off Romelu Lukaku. The World Cup-winning Argentine striker found the net with a bullet-speed shot the next time he got the ball back. Inter became more defensive after this goal. Milan couldn’t create any more chances.
