Bangladesh’s big win against Uzbekistan: Hockey

Kriralok Desk: Bangladesh got the expected big win against the bottom team Uzbekistan. Bangladesh defeated Uzbeks 3-1 in their third match in Pool ‘B’ at the Salalah Sports Complex in Oman on Friday (May 26). Amirul Islam scored two goals. Mamunur Rashid’s side also regained confidence ahead of facing mighty South Korea.

The dream lived on. The hope of making history remained alive. An expected win, but the score line was not as big as hoped. Full points, plus the relief of keeping the dream of the last four alive.

Uzbekistan, who played with laughter in Muscat in January, lost to the impregnable Abed-Prince in Salalah. At least that’s what it felt like in the first quarter. However, in the last minute of that quarter, Amirul Islam took the lead from the penalty corner.

This PC specialist has utilized the opportunity in the next quarter as well. Amirul’s double goal gave Red Green a 2-0 lead at the break.

Abed Uddin’s easy field goal early in the third quarter kept hopes of a big score alive. However, even after getting the opportunity, no more goals were seen.

Opponents, however, took advantage of the opportunity. Uzbekistan reduced the gap with the goal of Fazilbek Husanov. Bangladesh won both of the three matches in the last four mission. South Korea test in the last match of the group stage on Sunday.
