Real Madrid wants to break their record in the Club World Cup

Kriralok Desk: Real Madrid will face Saudi giants Al Hilal in the Club World Cup final in Morocco at midnight tonight as they aim to win a record fifth title. The European and Spanish champions have already won a record four titles. Captain Benzema could not play in the semi-finals of the tournament due to a thigh injury. Still, Real Madrid have proven they can win without the veteran star.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Spanish club confirmed the final with a 4-1 victory over Egypt’s Al Ahli in the semi-finals. Despite a poor start to the season, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are confident of a fifth Club World Cup title. Although unable to play in the semi-finals due to injury, Benzema was with the squad during team practice yesterday before the final. Los Bosnians previously won the Club World Cup title in 2014 under Ancelotti.

At that time, Ancelotti took the responsibility of the head coach of the club for the first time. Then the Spanish giants won the Club World Cup consecutively in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Vinicius Junior, Rodrigo and Fede Valverde scored for Real in Wednesday’s semi-final. Young star Sergio Arribas scored for the team from the bench. In that match, Madrid did not field the best team. Still, Real did not have the momentum to reach the final of the Club World Cup by beating the 10-time African Champions League winners.

Ancelotti said, ‘Benzema’s injury is not very serious. However, even if he is fit to play, he does not want to field the Ballon d’Or star in the beginning. Because in the previous match (without Benzema) the team performed quite aggressively.’ Real Madrid missed out on the Spanish Super Cup after losing to Barcelona last January. Even in La Liga, Ancelotti’s men are eight points behind arch-rivals Catalan giants at the top of the table.

That’s why the Madrid giants’ morale will be boosted if they win the Club World Cup title as their second trophy of the season after winning the European Super Cup title last August. Meanwhile, Al Hilal reached the Club World Cup final after defeating Flamengo, the Copa Libertadores winner, in the other semi-final. The 2021 Asian Cup champions, who finished fourth in 2019 and 2021, are aiming to win the title for the first time.
