Kriralok Desk: India set a world record by winning by the highest margin of runs in ODI cricket. The team set this record by defeating Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 327 runs.
Earlier in 2008, New Zealand won by 290 runs by 402 runs against Ireland. This was the world record for the highest run scored so far.
India won the toss and batted first to build a mountain of 390 runs at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (January 15).
Virat Kohli scored the maximum runs for the team. He played a devastating innings of 166 runs off 110 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes. Shubman Gill scored 116 runs off 97 balls. Captain Rohit Sharma scored 42 runs off 49 balls. Shreyas Iyer scored 38 runs off 32 balls.
While chasing the target, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 73 runs in 22 overs by the speed of Mohammad Siraj and Mohammad Shami and the spin of Kuldeep Yadav. Siraj took 4 wickets for India. Shami and Kuldeep took two wickets each.
India whitewashed Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series. Sri Lanka lost the three-match T20I series 2-1 at the start of India’s tour.
