Kriralok Desk: From the recent poor performance to the bad past and the fear of consecutive defeats, there was also fierce criticism off the field. Bangladesh won the first match of the World Cup by blowing everything away. Team Tigers started their World Cup campaign by defeating Netherlands by 9 runs in their first match of Super Twelve.
Bangladesh played their first match in the World Cup today against the Netherlands, who reached the Super Twelve after playing three matches in the first phase. After losing the toss at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval, Bangladesh scored 144 runs after batting first. Batting on a target of 145 runs, the innings of the Dutch ended with 135 runs under the control of the Tiger bowlers. Shakib Al Hasan’s team started the World Cup mission by winning the match by 9 runs.
Chasing the target of 145 runs set by Bangladesh, the Netherlands were bowled out for 135 runs. Bangladesh won mainly by relying on Taskin Ahmed’s terrible bowling. Taskin took 4 wickets.
Taskin Ahmed gave a big shock to the Netherlands at the start after coming out to bat for the target of 145 runs. He picked up a pair of wickets in the first two balls. After some time, the Dutch went on the backfoot with two consecutive runouts. The batting that broke the waist, could not turn around from there.
Still, Colin Ackerman tried. He fought alone against the Bangladeshi bowlers. He gave a great innings of 62 runs off 48 balls. If another batsman could have scored 40-45 runs with him, it would not have been possible for Bangladesh to win.
Despite the loss of 4 wickets for 15 runs, the Netherlands managed to reach 135 runs due to Ackerman’s tenacity. Taskin Ahmed took 4 wickets with 25 runs in 4 overs. Hasan Mahmud took 2 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar took 1 wicket each. The Dutch were all out in the very last ball of the innings.
Mostafizur Rahman bowled miserably. He could not take any wicket despite giving only 20 runs. But the most miserly was Hasan Mahmud. He gave only 15 runs in 4 overs. Shakib was the most scratchy. He gave 32 runs in 4 overs.
