Bangladesh in the World Cup after defeating Thailand

Kriralok Desk: Bangladesh girls had to win to qualify for T20 World Cup. Negara Sultana Jyoti’s team confirmed the 2023 tournament by defeating Thailand in the semi-finals of the qualifiers.

Now the finals are left, where only who will play in which group will be decided by win-loss. Team Tigress’s final opponent is Ireland. Bangladesh will play against them on Saturday at 9 pm.

Batting first at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Bangladesh scored 113 runs for 5 wickets. Salma Khatun-Sanjida Akhtar made things easy in bowling despite not meeting expectations in batting. The red-green won by 11 runs.

The Irish girls secured the final by defeating the Zimbabwean girls in another semi. Chasing a target of 137 against Zimbabwe in the first semi, Ireland won the thrilling match by 4 runs.

The 10-team tournament in South Africa will begin on February 9 next year and will continue until February 26. 8 teams have already been decided on the basis of ranking. Bangladesh and Ireland are the last two teams.

Women’s T20 World Cup will feature South Africa (Welcome), Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and Ireland.

Bangladesh got off to a great start in batting after losing the toss on Friday night. The opening pair of 34 runs was broken when Farzana Haque returned for 11 runs. Another opener Murshida Khatun scored 26 runs off 35 balls. The batsmen can score runs even without losing a wicket.

Skipper Jyoti scored 17 runs off 24 balls. 17 runs from 10 balls came from Ritumuni’s bat. Rumana Ahmed played a great innings of 28 runs off 24 balls with two fours and one six.

Rosenan Kanah and Onnicha Kamsamphu bowled well to restrict Bangladesh to 113 runs. Kanh, Kamsfu and Fannita Maya took one wicket each for the Thais. Murshida and Ritumani returned after running out.

Thailand kept losing wickets at regular intervals in response to short runs. Apart from Natthakan Chantham’s innings of 64 runs, none scored significant runs.

Salma Khatun bowled for Bangladesh. The experienced spinner took 3 wickets for 18 runs in 4 overs. Sanjida Akhtar gave only 7 runs in 4 overs, picking up 2 Thai batters.

Chantham, who was struggling to reach the final, hit 4 fours and 3 sixes off 51 balls. The second highest 12 runs for the team came from the bat of captain Chaivai. They stopped at 106 after losing 6 wickets at the end of the scheduled over. Thailand will take on Zimbabwe in the third place match.
