Bismah Maroof, the Pakistan captain, has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup in Australia after fracturing her right thumb during the match against England on Friday (February 28).
Nahida Khan has been approved as Maroof’s replacement by the Event Technical Committee while Javeria Khan will captain Pakistan for the rest of the tournament.
Maroof didn’t attend the post-match formalities and instead it was Javeria who spoke after the match, mentioning that the captain had left the field to take an X-ray. It was later revealed by the PCB that Maroof had sustained a “communitive fracture in her right thumb” for which she “will be operated upon by Cricket Australia’s orthopedic surgeon” in Sydney.
Pakistan have played two matches so far, winning against West Indies by eight wickets before going down to England by 42 runs. They next play against South Africa on March 1 while their last group match will be against Thailand on March 3.
