Relegation risk of Everton, Leicester and Leeds

Kriralok Desk: The main battle on the final day of the Premier League season tonight (Sunday) will be the challenge of three teams to save themselves from the relegation drought. Everton, Leicester and Leeds are constantly struggling to face this challenge. Two of those three teams will join Southampton already relegated to the second tier.

Among them, Everton has suffered financial losses in addition to field performance. The Toffees are already looking for outside investment to complete work on the new stadium. Everton’s fate rests entirely on themselves before they take on Bournemouth at home tomorrow. By winning this match, they can retain their eligibility to play in the Premier League for 70 years. Coach Sean Dyche’s team has won only one of the last 10 matches in this season’s league. Everton are without injured star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin tomorrow.

Dyche said on Friday, “We want the players to focus on the match. Everything has become difficult for the players at the moment. Now they have to focus only on their own performance, forget everything outside. We have to stay away from all kinds of rumors.”

If fourth-from-bottom Everton fail to win, then Leicester can go ahead on goal difference and fulfill their dream of staying in the Premier League if they beat West Ham at home. Seven years ago the Foxes made a splash with a fairytale Premier League title. Leicester finished in fifth place in two consecutive seasons in 2019/20 and 2020/21. They also won the FA Cup for the first time under Brendan Rodgers two years ago.

Many believe that it is sad that Lister’s success did not come despite the addition of talented players like James Maddison, Yuri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes to the team. Rogers had to lose his job in April after being blamed for the failure. Before that, Rogers could not show the ability to strengthen the team. Dean Smith came as a coach but could not turn the fortunes of the team. Leicester managed just one win in seven matches under him.

“We must win the last match,” said Smith. Better not to focus on Everton’s results until the match is over. We have to do our own work, then we will see what the other teams are doing.’

Second-bottom Leeds, however, will have to pull off a surprise if they are to stay in the Premier League for a third straight year. A win against Tottenham at Elland Road will only give Sam Aldrich’s side a chance of survival. But in that case, Everton and Leicester have to lose their respective matches.

Leeds need to win by at least three goals against Tottenham if Everton draw. Through this, Leeds will be able to overtake Everton on goal difference. Aldrich, who will serve as interim coach until the end of the season, said of the team’s prospects, “Just hoping Monday morning that we can talk in a positive spirit.” Leicester and Leeds are second and third from the bottom with equal 31 points, with Everton two points ahead in 17th.

Meanwhile, Tottenham, who are just one point behind seventh-placed Aston Villa, face a challenge to play in next season’s Europa Conference League. Villa are in a strong position in this regard though. Villa will return to Europe for the first time in 13 years if they beat Brighton in the last game. A good result from Villa would see Tottenham move above them into seventh place. But if neither of these two teams win, Brentford will qualify for Europe for the first time in the club’s history. For that, however, they need to beat champions Manchester City in West London.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle have already qualified to play with City in next year’s Champions League. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Brighton will play in the Europa League next season.
